⁶ Why do you harden^(A) your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When Israel’s god dealt harshly with them,^(B) did they^(C) not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way?

⁷ “Now then, get a new cart^(D) ready, with two cows that have calved and have never been yoked.^(E) Hitch the cows to the cart, but take their calves away and pen them up. ⁸ Take the ark of the Lord and put it on the cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are sending back to him as a guilt offering. Send it on its way,

⁹ When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. ¹⁰ The Lord’s anger^(A) burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down^(B) because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.

¹¹ Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.^[a](C)
